Access • City Award
The Access • City Award is an innovative competition between European cities, launched in 2010 to promote accessibility
in the urban environment for people with disabilities.
The Award is given to a European city of over 50,000 inhabitants that has demonstrably and sustainably improved accessibility
in fundamental aspects of city living, and that has concrete plans for further improvements in the four key areas of:
• the built environment and public spaces
• transport and related infrastructures
• information and communication, new technologies (ICTs)
• public facilities and services
The aim of the Award is to encourage cities to share experience and improve accessibility for the benefit of all.
In the context of a steadily ageing population in European cities and its correlation with disabilities,
improved accessibility has important social and economic benefits.
